The first statement

Shortly Simonon coined the name for the band, taking it from a newspaper headline ( «clash» in English - a collision). Concert debut of a new group took place on 4 July 1976 in Sheffield on heating from Sex Pistols. Followed by a presentation to the clubs of London and the provinces. In late August, Simonon and Strammer took part in the riots in London's Notting Hill area, resulting from tough police action against the Caribbean immigrants: Paul threw bricks at police, Joe tried to set fire to the car turned. Under the impression of what happened later was a song written «White Riot», became the debut single group.

In early September, Levin left The Clash (soon he will join The Flowers of Romance, but after 2 years, along with John Laydonom created Public Image Ltd). 20 and 21 September, The Clash were the first punk festival at London's club «100», which was also advocated Sex Pistols, The Buzzcocks, The Damned, etc. The next group left another party - the drummer Terry Chayms - and he was replaced by Rob Harper, dotyanuvshy, however, only until the beginning of next year.

In November, The Clash for the first time enrolled in a professional studio together with producer Ai Stevens - demo recordings were for Polydor Records, but the group was disappointed by the result of the work of Stevens and the records do not go. All December with The Clash Sex Pistols and The Damned conducted in the separation of England in the tour «Anarchy», but most of the concerts were banned or canceled because the organizers of the national scandal caused by the TV Sex Pistols.
